66winFernando Tatis Jr. pulled off one of the most outrageous catches of the MLB season on Monday night.
Padres star robs Vientos with a Jaw-Dropping grab in Right Field
wjevoWith a runner on and the game tied in the fourth inning, New York Mets slugger Mark Vientos launched a 380-foot rocket to right-center. San Diego Padres announcer Don Orsillo was on his way through calling it a home run, until Tatis changed everything.
hot646The 26-year-old outfielder sprinted to the warning track, leapt with perfect timing, and snagged the ball backhanded while slamming into the wall. His face literally pressed against the padding as he reeled it in.
It was so clean that despite the ball falling as he tried to throw it back in, the umpires ruled it an out due to the transfer.
The grab kept the game a 1-1 tie and showed again why Tatis is a former Platinum Glove winner. The ball came off the bat at 103.3 mph and looked uncatchable. But for Tatis, impossible plays aren’t out of reach.

Forget catch of the night. This might go down as the catch of the year. The Padres eventually went on to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth to move to 58-49 on the season. The Mets are now 62-45.
The same two teams meet up on Tuesday, as the Padres seek their fourth straight win.
